Dance Section Regulations
Classes are for amateurs and students who do not derive the major part of their income from the teaching or performance of dance.
Competitors attending full-time vocational dance training are not eligible to enter.
No entry can be accepted without payment. Entry procedure is changing. Please see website for further details.
Age to be taken as at 31 August 2025
Time limits for each class must be strictly observed. The Adjudicator has the right to stop performances which exceed the time limit.
Pointe work is prohibited for competitors under 13 years old.
Costumes are optional throughout.
Music must be uploaded via the entry system on the AED Portal. Teachers are responsible for ensuring the correct music is uploaded and adheres to outlined time limits, which can be verified through the portal. Please bring back up music.
The Festival accepts no liability for the infringement of copyright, recording or performing rights arising out of any competitor’s accompaniment, choreography or performance. Teachers and choreographers using music created from commercial recordings are advised that they are responsible for seeking permission to re-record from the recording companies concerned.
Dances set by an examining board for use in its syllabus may not be used.
Performers will not be permitted to re-dance their performance except in Pre-Junior sections or in cases of technical issues.
In Duet, Trio/Quartet or Group classes, the eldest competitor’s age determines which class the group enters.
Performers may not enter more than once in any solo, duet or trio/quartet section.
A minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 dancers constitutes a small group, while 11 to 30 dancers form a large group.
Photography, filming and recording of performances is strictly prohibited.
Late arrivals will be allowed to dance only if time permits and at the organiser’s discretion, and will be marked but not placed. Note that classes may start up to 20 minutes early.
The stage and wings are out of bounds except to competitors about to perform and to authorised persons: e.g. one assistant from each school accompanying children under 7, and for older performers an assistant to help with wardrobe or props.
Classes may be amalgamated or split depending on the number of entries.
